Senegal has applied a reference price for phosphate exports since January 2024, used to calculate mining royalties. The Intergovernmental Forum on Mining helped design the mechanism, which is linked to the Moroccan phosphate price index at Dakar.
This is a royalty and revenue measure with little direct effect on global phosphate supply or price, as Senegal is a small exporter.
