Namibia lifted its one-year ban on chicken imports from South Africa, announced in a mid-May notice. Imports will be allowed only from avian-influenza-free, biosecure South African farms entering through legal channels, and import quotas will remain in place.
The ban had been imposed in September 2023 after an HPAI outbreak in South Africa.
Reopening imports adds supply to Namibia's chicken market, though quotas limit the volume and should keep the effect on prices modest.
