USDA's Sofia office expects Bulgaria's 2024/25 rapeseed crop to fall 4% to about 200,000 tonnes because of smaller area and poor weather. The sunflower crop is forecast to rise to 2.1 million tonnes from 1.8 million, helped by good spring planting conditions.
A smaller Bulgarian rapeseed crop supports rapeseed meal prices, while a larger sunflower crop adds to sunflower meal supply. Bulgaria is a major EU sunflower oil and meal exporter, so the effect is modest but relevant.
