Peru's Ministry of Production cancelled the second 2026 anchovy season in the north-central zone after a scientific survey found 79% of anchovies were juveniles. The first season had been suspended in June and closed in August after landing only about a quarter of its quota.
Peruvian anchovy is the main raw material for global fishmeal and fish oil, so a season with no catch removes a large share of supply until 2027. That tightens fishmeal supply and supports prices, and buyers may shift toward soybean meal as a substitute.
