The Environmental Performance Index 2024 by Yale and Columbia ranks Peru among the world's best fishing performers and the top in South America. The index credits sustainable management of the anchovy stock, which is mainly used for fishmeal.
Peru's anchovy fishery supplies about 20% of world fishmeal in an average year.
This is a sustainability ranking with no new supply change, so it has little direct effect on fishmeal prices. It does reinforce the reliability of Peru's anchovy quota system that the feed market depends on.
