China's pork output in the third quarter fell 0.8% year on year to 12.59 million tonnes, the third straight annual quarterly decline. Hog slaughter for the first nine months fell 3.2%, and the herd at the end of September was 3.5% smaller.
Cash hog prices fell to around a four-month low of 17.17 yuan per kg.
Smaller supply is offset by weak meat demand, so hog prices are falling and lower returns could reduce farmers' feed buying. This keeps pressure on feed-grain demand in China.
After 159 past bearish report events, Lean Hogs moved a median -0.2% over 5 sessions (47% higher; middle half -2.2% to +1.3%), and +1.0% over 20.
