Malaysia's Financial Markets Committee met on 18 November 2024 to review the ringgit, which has pared earlier gains to 4.4792 per dollar on non-resident portfolio hedging against broad dollar strength. The committee said the ringgit still outperforms regional peers and is up against the dollar year-to-date, with USD 1 billion in bond inflows and USD 200 million in equity inflows.
Implied volatility stood at 4.5%, below the regional average of 6.0%.
A firmer ringgit and orderly FX conditions reduce the cost of importing Malaysian feed-related inputs such as palm-based products, while stronger dollar pressure keeps import costs elevated.
