Peru's first half of the second anchovy season saw 1.37 million tonnes caught, 54.6% of the annual quota. The season may close early because the juvenile catch is approaching the 151,000-tonne limit.
About 450,000 tonnes of fishmeal for the next season has already been pre-sold.
A larger-than-expected Peruvian catch adds fishmeal supply, which is bearish for fishmeal prices. An early closure to protect juveniles would tighten supply and could support prices.
