Statistics Canada raised its estimate of the Canadian barley crop to 8.1 million tonnes in its December update, up from 7.6 million in September, based on a farmer survey yielding 63.2 bu/acre. The crop remains the second lowest since 2017.
A larger crop than previously estimated adds some supply pressure, though a tight global barley market and firm feed demand may absorb it, leaving the price impact limited.
