USDA's January 2025 Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry Outlook shows broiler production in November 2024 fell 16.5% from October and 4.4% from a year earlier. HPAI affected over 18 million birds in December, including about 2.2 million in the broiler chain.
USDA also cut its first-quarter 2025 broiler production forecast to 11.7 billion pounds.
Lower broiler output tightens chicken supply and supports chicken prices. Reduced poultry production also cuts feed demand from the broiler sector.
