The ILA and USMX reached a tentative six-year contract covering 45,000 dockworkers at 36 East and Gulf Coast ports, averting a strike set for January 15. Both sides agreed to keep the existing contract in place until members ratify the new deal.
About 40% of US containerized agricultural exports move through these ports, and feed vitamins and amino acids are also imported there.
A ports strike would have disrupted containerized grain and feed-ingredient flows, so the deal removes a near-term logistics risk to export and import costs. Ratification is still pending, so some residual risk remains for feed ingredient supply.
