Peru's Ministry of Production ordered closure of the second 2024 north-central anchovy season effective January 23 after more than 95% of quota was exceeded, with over 2.38 million tons caught. The closure follows scientific advice to protect spawning stock.
The early end to the season limits further fishmeal supply from Peru, the largest source of global fishmeal, which can support prices for fishmeal and protein alternatives in feed.
