Australian feeder cattle prices have softened again, with grids down about 20c/kg over the past fortnight as large cattle supply filled forward contracts. Darling Downs buyers quoted 370-380c/kg for 400kg+ flatback steers, and the MLA Feeder Steer Indicator has dropped 40c since January.
Monsoonal rain in the north and drying dams in the south are also shaping the outlook.
Heavy feedlot supply and weaker grids point to lower feeder cattle costs for buyers, while dry conditions in southern dams could tighten supply later.
