Green Acres Milling, a farmer-owned venture led by Landon Plagge, plans to break ground in spring 2025 on a $55 million oat processing plant in Albert Lea, Minnesota. The facility is expected to process 3 million bushels of oats per year and to be operational by early fall 2026.
Plagge said brands are paying oat millers 22% more than a few years ago.
A new processing plant adds meaningful domestic demand for US oats, which could support oat prices and farm acreage over the coming seasons, though the effect is gradual and years away.
