Basis Commodities' week 8 update reports Australian domestic wheat and barley markets were firmer in most port zones as buyers raised bids to attract scarce farmer selling. Forecasters raised Australia's 2024/25 barley crop estimate to 13.2 million tonnes to reflect strong export pace and heavy supplies in Queensland and northern New South Wales.
National wheat exports are estimated near 24 million tonnes, with shipments weighted to the July to September quarter.
Firm domestic bids reflect tight farmer selling, but the larger barley crop and steady export outlook limit upside for export prices.
