The Canola Council of Canada responded to China's March 8 announcement of 100% tariffs on Canadian canola oil and meal, effective March 20. The council said exports to China were nearly $5 billion in 2024, including 2 million tonnes of meal.
It called the tariffs prohibitive and urged Ottawa to engage with Beijing.
Prohibitive tariffs remove a major export market for Canadian canola meal, a key feed protein, likely pressuring Canadian canola prices and redirecting meal flows.
