Canada announced AgriStability support for its agricultural sector in response to China's tariffs on canola oil, canola meal, peas, pork and seafood. The government said the duties will hurt farmers and raise prices for Chinese customers.
The release also cites trade uncertainty with the US and animal disease risks.
Government income support can cushion Canadian farmers' planting decisions but does not restore export access, so the tariff's price pressure on canola complex remains.
