The rupiah hit an all-time low of 16,970 per dollar on Wednesday morning before paring some losses, according to LSEG data. Bank Indonesia Governor Destry said the central bank would act boldly to maintain stability and that regional currencies were weaker because of the escalating global trade war.
The central bank's pledge to intervene limits further rupiah downside, but the currency still raises the dollar-linked cost of feed imports for Indonesian buyers.
