Feeder cattle placements have shifted north from Texas and Kansas into Iowa and Nebraska earlier than usual this year. USDA reports show placements down 18% from February to May, with Texas and Kansas posting the steepest declines.
The geographic shift reflects feed costs, water and processing access, and it changes where feeder demand sits, though it does not on its own move national feeder prices much.
