Indian refiners cancelled orders for 65,000 metric tons of crude palm oil scheduled for July to September delivery, according to four trade sources. The cancellations followed a more than 6% jump in Malaysian palm futures over three days.
Refiners were locking in profits rather than waiting for prices to fall.
Cancelled import orders remove near-term demand from the largest palm oil importer, which weighs on Malaysian and Indonesian export prices. The move also shows buyers are pausing purchases after the rally.
After 158 past bearish trade events, Palm Oil moved a median +0.0% over 5 sessions (51% higher; middle half -1.3% to +0.8%), and -1.4% over 20.
