Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said removing China's tariffs on Canadian agriculture and seafood is a priority, with ministerial talks underway. China currently levies 100% on Canadian canola oil and meal but none on canola seed.
The tariffs were imposed in retaliation for Canada's EV and steel and aluminum duties.
Any removal of China's 100% canola meal tariff would reopen a major export market and could support canola meal prices. Until then, the tariffs keep Canadian meal demand weak.
