IFFO reports that Peru's first north-central fishing season began April 22, 2025, a week later than in 2024, and about 70% of the 3 million tonne anchovy quota has been filled. IFFO estimates 2025 output at 5.6 million tonnes of fishmeal and 1.2-1.3 million tonnes of fish oil.
Fishmeal output rose about 3% year on year through April, while China's marine ingredient output for January-May is estimated lower as local plants idle under fishing bans.
Steady Peruvian catches support global fishmeal supply, which is about 20% of world output. Lower Chinese production tightens the market and supports fishmeal prices for feed buyers.
