The State Bank of Vietnam attributed the dong's fall to low domestic interest rates and foreign stock-market outflows, even as the US Dollar Index fell about 11% this year. The dong had weakened nearly 3% against the dollar, and the bank warned of further pressure from the US reciprocal tariffs starting August 1.
Foreign investors withdrew about VND40 trillion from the stock market in the first half.
Persistent dong weakness raises the cost of dollar-denominated feed imports for Vietnam, and the tariff-related pressure adds further upside risk to USD/VND.
