The Mexican peso weakened to about 18.80 per USD as the dollar index rose to 98.67 after a US-EU trade deal was finalized on July 28. The deal sets a 15% US tariff on most EU imports, half the previously threatened 30%, and includes EU pledges to buy $750 billion of US energy over three years.
The peso moved within a 18.60 to 19.20 range, with a weekly move of about 0.69%.
The deal lowered tariff-war risk and lifted the dollar, which raises the peso cost of dollar-priced feed imports for Mexican buyers. The impact on grain and meal prices is small.
