Butter futures rallied on July 28 after the June Cold Storage report showed lower-than-expected butter stocks. Spot butter gained 3.5 cents to $2.50/lb, and Class III futures for September rose 24 cents to $17.79/cwt.
Cheese inventories came in above expectations but cheese still closed higher.
Tighter butter stocks support Class III and Class IV prices, which can firm dairy-linked feed demand. The cheese inventory overhang limits the upside for Class III.
