Live and feeder cattle closed sharply lower on Thursday as fund liquidation weighed on futures, with August live cattle down $5.30 and August feeder cattle down $7.57. Cash trade was reported higher at $383 to $385 dressed in Nebraska, and feeder cattle auctions were $5 to $20 higher.
Fund selling pressured futures, but firm cash and auction prices keep the underlying cattle supply tight, so futures may track cash prices in coming sessions.
