A new report finds that the uptake of FEFAC-compliant sustainable soy in Europe rose from 42% in 2019 to 54% in 2023. It also finds that EU27+ soy supply still depends heavily on imports from high-deforestation-risk regions such as the Cerrado, Amazon and Gran Chaco.
The EU27+ is the largest importer of soybeans and the second-largest importer of soy meal, so its reliance on imports from high-risk regions makes compliance a factor in global soy meal trade. Growing demand for verified sourcing could support premiums for compliant soy.
