The Congressional Research Service updated its In Focus report on U.S. egg production and retail prices on July 3, 2025. It notes that the BLS national average retail price of eggs hit an all-time high of $5.90 per dozen in February 2025.
The report attributes this to bird flu losses of millions of laying hens since 2022.
Egg supply losses from avian influenza tighten the layer flock and shift demand across the protein complex, but this report mainly summarizes past conditions with little direct effect on feed grain or meal prices.
