Peru's Ministry of Production ordered the end of the first 2025 anchovy season in the North-Central region, effective midnight July 24. The decision followed an IMARPE recommendation to protect spawning and juvenile stock.
Catch had reached 2,457,487 tonnes, or 81.92% of the 3-million-tonne limit.
Closing the season early removes fishmeal and fish oil supply from the world's largest anchovy fishery, which tends to firm fishmeal prices. Feed buyers may see less availability from Peruvian producers through the second half of the year.
