The ringgit closed lower against the US dollar on Friday, slipping to about 4.2230 as traders awaited the July PCE inflation release. Markets expected headline PCE at 2.6 per cent and core PCE at 2.9 per cent.
The ringgit also weakened against the euro and yen.
A hotter-than-expected PCE print would firm the dollar and could pressure dollar-denominated commodity prices. The currency move itself is routine pre-data positioning.
