Basis bids for soybeans shipped by barge to U.S. Gulf terminals firmed slightly on Wednesday as exporter demand and rising freight costs in some locations lifted prices. Empty barges on the Illinois River were offered at 625% of tariff, up from 600% a day earlier, while corn CIF Gulf barge bids held steady.
Higher barge freight and firmer soybean export bids widen the cost of moving grain to the Gulf, which supports Gulf basis and export-linked soybean demand. Corn stays flat as old-crop movement and the record harvest outlook cap gains.
