China announced a preliminary anti-dumping duty of 75.8% on Canadian canola imports, set to take effect Thursday after a probe launched in September 2024. Beijing also opened an anti-dumping probe into Canadian pea starch.
China sources nearly all of its canola from Canada.
The duty effectively shuts Canada's largest canola export market, pushing down Canadian canola and meal prices. Chinese feed buyers will shift purchases to other origins, supporting demand for competing protein meals.
