The ringgit extended its gains against the US dollar on Wednesday, October 1, opening at 4.1980/2190 from 4.2050/2090 the previous close. Bernama reported that worries about a US shutdown and expectations of lower US interest rates were weighing on the dollar.
The ringgit also opened firmer against the yen, pound, euro and most regional currencies.
A stronger ringgit trims the local cost of imported feed ingredients priced in dollars. Feed buyers in Malaysia may see slightly lower landed costs, though the currency move is driven by US policy expectations.
