The Canadian dollar strengthened slightly against the US dollar on Monday, trading 0.2% higher at 1.3912 per US dollar. Exporters locked in currency rates after recent US dollar gains, and speculators took profits on short loonie bets.
Oil settled 3.45% lower at $63.45 a barrel.
A firmer loonie makes Canadian grain, canola and meal slightly more expensive for foreign buyers, while weaker oil lowers energy-linked costs. The move is small and mainly a routine currency wrap for feed buyers.
