Midwest large eggs now cost about $2.50 per dozen, down from more than $8 in March, after bird flu spread slowed in the region. Indiana poultry officials said it takes six months to a year for flocks to return to full laying, and about 400,000 South Dakota turkeys were lost in the past month.
Lower egg prices reflect the supply recovery, but further bird losses in turkeys or layers could quickly lift prices again.
