President Sheinbaum announced an expansion of germplasm seed banks to preserve all 64 corn varieties in Mexico, 59 of them native. The plan follows a constitutional reform that banned planting of genetically modified corn.
The seed bank program is a conservation policy that does not change near-term corn supply or demand. Its main effect is to reinforce Mexico's restrictions on GM corn.
After 1,623 past policy events, Corn moved a median +0.1% over 5 sessions (51% higher; middle half -1.4% to +1.5%), and +0.4% over 20.
