An investigation by Earthsight found that two Brazilian Cerrado producers, Mizote Group and Franciosi Agro, cleared 986 hectares since May 2024, including forested areas. The report says soy from these producers would not be compliant with the EU deforestation regulation.
The Cerrado lost more than 652,000 hectares of native vegetation in 2024.
Evidence of continued clearing raises compliance risk for Brazilian soy destined for Europe, which could push buyers toward certified supply at a premium. The effect on broad soybean prices is likely small.
