Bird flu (H5N1) is surging again on US poultry farms, with about 7.3 million birds culled since early September across nearly 50 commercial farms. Three-quarters of the culled birds were laying hens from three large egg operations.
Rising culls raise the risk of renewed egg shortages and higher egg prices this winter, though losses so far are under 2% of layers. Poultry disruption can also trim demand for feed ingredients.
