IFEEDER published a report assessing how disruptions to US vitamin and amino acid supply from China would affect food security. The study found farmers could partly offset shortfalls by changing diets, but not fully, and would face animal welfare and efficiency costs.
The research was conducted with Decision Innovation Solutions and Lobo Consulting.
The findings highlight a risk that a Chinese supply shock could raise costs for feed formulators and reduce production efficiency. The mitigation options described are partial, so disruption would still tighten amino acid and vitamin markets.
