Cottonseed is leaving feedlot rations in northern Australia, where harvest is nearly over, and the slow start to harvest in Victoria has lifted prices ahead of new crop. Feedlots are dropping cottonseed because canola meal is cheaper per unit of value, while smaller yards still use it for easier storage.
Trade estimates put delivered cottonseed at $580-$600/t.
Reduced feedlot uptake of cottonseed meal lowers its demand, while canola meal gains. The shift matters for regional feed cost choices.
