Malaysian palm oil posted its first weekly gain in four months after a strong January, then slipped on Friday as traders took profits and rival edible oils weakened. The April contract settled at 4,229 ringgit per ton, down 2.04% on the day.
A weaker ringgit and Indonesia's higher February crude palm oil reference price cushioned the decline.
Palm trades alongside soyoil and crude, so weakness in rival oils and energy can pull palm lower and reduce input costs for feed-related fats. The weaker ringgit helps Malaysian exports but limits gains in dollar terms.
