The South African rand edged up on February 20 after a higher-than-expected US PCE inflation reading for December. The rand traded at 16.08 per dollar, roughly 0.4% stronger than the prior close, while investors also watched rising US-Iran tensions.
A firmer rand lowers the local-currency cost of South African exports such as maize and oilseeds, which can slightly weaken US dollar export prices for South African-origin feed ingredients. The move is small and driven mainly by dollar sentiment.
