Global Affairs Canada announced that, effective March 1, 2026, China suspended anti-discrimination tariffs on canola meal, peas, lobster and crab until the end of 2026. China also cut the combined tariff on Canadian canola seed to 14.9%, down from nearly 85%.
Canada said this improves access for about $4 billion in annual canola seed exports.
A sharp cut in Chinese tariffs restores a major export outlet for Canadian canola products, which tightens global canola meal and seed supplies and supports prices. Meal is the feed-relevant product, and the relief is temporary for meal, running only through 2026.
