India's government approved an additional 25 lakh metric tonnes of wheat exports on 20 April 2026, citing wheat acreage up to about 334.17 lakh hectares and 2025-26 production estimated at 1202 LMT. The total approved wheat exports for the season are now 50 LMT, plus 10 LMT of wheat products.
The export approval gives India's large wheat stocks an outlet, which increases world wheat supply competition and tends to weigh on international wheat prices. The move is aimed at relieving domestic farm prices.
