Weskan Grain, a Kansas and Colorado grain handler, has filed a dispute against Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad and Union Pacific, alleging contractual and economic barriers that limit its westward grain shipments. The dispute is before the Surface Transportation Board.
Freight from Weskan's Scott City East facility is more than $1,500 per car higher than from its Stockton, Colorado site to Southern California.
The case concerns regional rail access and freight costs for wheat, sorghum and corn in the High Plains. A ruling could change basis and transport costs for local elevators, but the effect is regional rather than national.
After 44 past logistics events, Wheat (HRW) moved a median -0.7% over 5 sessions (48% higher; middle half -2.8% to +2.8%), and +2.7% over 20.
Moves of each commodity's benchmark from the last close before the event. Historical reads pool past events of the same kind; they describe what happened, not what will. Not investment advice.
