The Abyei Special Administrative Area government launched a subsidized sorghum sales program, selling 4 kg tins at 12,000 South Sudanese Pounds against a market price of 22,000 to 25,000. The program runs in Abyei town markets until August and will extend to all four counties.
This is a small local retail subsidy in South Sudan with no meaningful effect on global sorghum supply, demand or prices.
