Peru's Ministry of Production authorized the second southern-zone anchovy season, running July 1 to December 31, 2026, or until the quota is reached. The total allowable catch is 251,000 tons for indirect human consumption, based on Imarpe advice under a precautionary approach.
The season may be modified or closed early depending on biological and environmental conditions.
A 251,000-ton quota supplies raw material for fishmeal and fish oil in the second half of the year, which caps how far global fishmeal prices can rise if the northern fishery stays shut. Any early closure or quota change would shift that balance.
