Evonik has completed backward integration at its DL-methionine (MetAMINO) plant in Mobile, Alabama, adding on-site production of the intermediate methyl mercaptan. The company says this completes on-site intermediate production at its US, Belgian and Singapore hubs, cutting the carbon footprint of production by about 7%.
Integrated Americas supply improves methionine reliability and reduces exposure to intermediate disruptions, which may modestly ease supply tightness in the region. The effect on prices is limited because it changes production economics rather than adding a large volume of new supply.
