The US Justice Department and 17 states settled with Cal-Maine Foods, Versova and Hickman's Egg Ranch over allegations that the producers coordinated bids submitted to the Urner Barry egg price index between June 2022 and March 2025. The companies will pay $3.3 million and donate 53 million eggs.
The settlement addresses past price manipulation and does not change egg supply or feed demand. Any effect on egg prices is likely to be small.
