October lean hogs settled at 83.675 after a month-end short-covering rally that carried through the 83.325 resistance. The rally followed a strengthening pork cutout that gave back some gains in the afternoon.

Short covering and a firmer cutout support near-term hog futures, but cash prices must follow for the rally to hold. A failure at resistance could bring a retest of lower support.
